From the Stacks…

From the desk of Joyce Armstrong, Library Director

It is that time of the year again and the library has received 1098 and 1099, w-2 and w-3 along with 1040ez, 1040A and basic 1040 forms.  We also have a limited number of brochures for “Taxpayers Who No Longer Receive Tax Packages”. This informational brochure provides online addresses for ordering forms at <a www.irs.gov, (select Forms and Publications). You can print some of the forms on this site or order to receive them by mail. Do you know about IRS Free File?  IRS Free File on <a www.irs.gov provides options for free brand-name tax software or online fillable forms plus free electronic filing.  For more information, go to www.irs.gov and select freefile icon under filing and payments. The word is that library will not be receiving 2010 Kansas State Income Tax Forms.  The online site to access the forms is: http://www.ksrevenue.org/formsii.htm .
This column may sound like an advertisement for IRS, but that is not the case.
It has been a tradition that the library distributes printed forms as a courtesy to library patrons. IRS and the Kansas Department of Revenue encourage online filing, thus eliminating paper waste.  Please keep in mind that Library Staff will not offer tax advice or assistance in preparing returns.
